May 5th - Tech stack and other funy topics

Hello

It’s Qnbie again!

Our topic for today is the tech stack what we will use for the game.

Godot <3

Yeah it’s not a big surprise that we will use the biggest opensource indie game engine to build our kinda opensource and definitely indie game. Most of our previous attempts are made with Godot so we have some experience with it. Regarding the other two big engine, none of them are suitable for our need. Unity is kinda meh since the big scandal around it, and we don’t have a powerful enough PC for UE5.

The actually interesting info what I want to share in this post is…

Why this game is interesting?

When I first tried it out, I recently started to play with XCOM, which is to be honest a more deep and complex experience then to go around with a tank and shoot walls and other bad tank down. It almost above the argument that it is also a much easier game then XCOM. No aliens, no tech tree, no multiple controllable units, the enemy variety is basically doesn’t exist compare to that and we there is a ton of other thing what is not in Battle City.

But, I literally can’t finished the 3rd level of the game. It frustrated me because it’s not a skill or reflex issue, what may set apart these two game, and certainly not a difficulty issue, since this is not that arcade style of game what needed to be hard to make more money. It’s because the lack of my tactical skills. Although I was in to a deep tactical title, but I had to realize that I needed another approach since I have to master that kind of multitasking what you can see in MOBAs.

It’s totally okay if you think that I’m tripping balls right now when I first try to measure a small 2D tank game to the latest XCOM and as a conclusion I compare it to a MOBA. But hear me out. You have a base what you need to defend from multiple enemies, on a map with different obstacles and in the mean time you need to manage your upgrades as well. The main challenge is to be on the right place of the map on the right time and you need to have a situational sense to decide what is the right time and where is the right place. The questions what you constantly asking from yourself is also the similar. Should I kill this troop or go after the other one? Can I get that upgrade before these troops are reaching my base? If I destroy or let to be destroyed these structures, will it lead me a tactical advantage or not?

And yeah this is kinda the vibe what we want to capture our self with Mechanical Destruction 9637 as well.

Another day another post. To be completely honest the first half of this post is created at 5th but it was not published that day and I needed a good sleep and some RCE video to be able to finish it the morning of the next day. I back date this post for aesthetic reasons but I wanted to include this here.

The lesson from this is to prepare ahead if you start these a project like this to have something for those less creative days when they come.

Thanks for your time.
